About CSL Biotherapies (NZ) Ltd
From 1962, CSL Bioplasma provided products to New Zealanders from New Zealand plasma. Since then, CSL Bioplasma has been the national plasma fractionator (separator) for New Zealand. CSL continues to work with health authorities and the New Zealand Blood Service to ensure the quality, safety, and security of supply of plasma derived therapeutics fractionated from plasma collected within New Zealand.
CSL Pharmaceuticals was set up in New Zealand in 1992 to provide a range of vaccines and medications to the New Zealand population. Over the past 13 years CSL has also held contracts with the NZ Government to supply vaccines ranging from influenza, tetanus, diphtheria and combination vaccines.
In 2005, CSL stepped in at short notice to supply 150,000 doses of influenza vaccine for New Zealanders. This followed the discovery that the funded vaccine did not meet regulatory standards due to a manufacturing error.
In November 2005, CSL agreed with the Ministry of Health to guarantee New Zealand priority access to a vaccine for an influenza-style pandemic when declared by the World Health Organisation.
In line with the changes within the CSL Group, CSL (New Zealand) Ltd changed its name to CSL Biotherapies (NZ) Ltd on 30 November 2006. The changes will (over time) affect the appearance of documents and packaging issued by CSL Biotherapies but does not mean any change to the structure or ownership of the company.
